BARRIÈRE, Émile (1902–1936), aviator L.A.S., Buenos Aires [June–July 1930?], to Jean MERMOZ; 1 page, in-4, on Compagnie Générale Aéropostale letterhead. He understands Mermoz’s resentment, as Mermoz is stranded in Natal. “It’s unfortunate to say, but the grumbling and discontent began as soon as Mr. Pranville arrived. Vanier’s attitude immediately after the accident is beyond description. He sacrificed all discipline and harmony on the route to his ‘dirty’ love affair. The arrangements I had planned—well-thought-out measures taken in collaboration with old comrades like Étienne—were destroyed, and counter-orders were issued without explanation. I did not let myself be walked all over. The incidents did not escalate, as Messrs. de Sieyès and Almonacid were fully on my side and advised me not to press the issue. […] A telegram from Mr. Daurat reassuring me and confirming that the arrangements made would be put into effect immediately. Uncertainty at the ports of call […] There is no reason for the current state of affairs to continue. The tide will turn, and I am sure that upon your return you will find the harmony on this line that we owe in large part to you”… He hopes this note will arrive “before your departure from Natal. We are all, your friends, wholeheartedly with you on your journey”… Source: - Jean Mermoz (1901–1936); - Gabrielle Gillet-Mermoz (1880–1955); - Then passed down through the family
