MERMOZ, Jean L.A.S. “Ton Jean,” Prat de Llobrégat, February 18, 1926, to his “Dearest Mom”; 2 pages, in-4 format, on letterhead from the Café Restaurant Jacinto Marti. “As of today, I’ve been assigned to Casablanca on the Casa-Malaga route; I’ll be leaving Barcelona on Monday or Tuesday for Toulouse, and from there I may fly an aircraft to Morocco. I’m happy with this change in every way. The assignments pay better, and life is just like in France; plus, I won’t be leaving Spain entirely, and I’ll be heading to Dakar from time to time. Naturally, my plans to move closer haven’t changed. I’ll submit my official request to return to the Franco in a few days for April–May, and I’ll submit another one for Air-Union, which is launching the Paris–Marseille–Genoa–Naples–Athens route. In any case, I’ll be leaving the House on good terms, as they’ve been exceptionally kind to me, and I’ll always be glad to have a way out if needed. […] I’m expecting my famous chocolate medal any day now”… Correspondence, No. 78. Enclosed is a handwritten letter “Jean,” Sunday [late January 1926?], to “Dearest Mom” (2 p. ¼ in-8). He met with Colonel Denain: “He promised me his support, but the hardest part will be finding the company to supply the aircraft”… Provenance: - Jean Mermoz (1901–1936); - Gabrielle Gillet-Mermoz (1880–1955); - Then passed down within the family
