552 - Baroque casket.

Baroque casket. A veneered Baroque casket with a slightly domed lid and pyrographed decorations; the lid features a depiction of a town by a river, overlooked by a tree with a bird perched in it. Inside, it features one large compartment, two very small ones, and one elongated compartment, suggesting it was used as a writing box with a large compartment for paper, one smaller compartment each for sand and ink, and an elongated compartment for writing instruments. No key; shows signs of wear consistent with its age. Some veneer loss; the interior has a very mottled, more recent lining made from wallpaper scraps.
