1329 - A FINE, DATED ICON DEPICTING THE NATIVITY OF CHRIST AND THE ADORATION OF THE MAGI. Russian, Palekh, dated 1855. Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. The halos are gilded. The reverse is inscribed in Cyrillic and dated '1855'. Finely painted, with sculptural rendering of the flesh tones. Two selected saints on the borders: Saints Philaret and Aquilina. The edges are partially chipped; a vertical crack has been partially restored. 30.8 x 26.2 cm.
