1872 (EROTICA) EXHIBITION OF FEMALE FLAGELLANTS, HENRY THOMAS BUCKLE (EROTICA) Exhibition of Female Flagellants (2 vols, 67pp, 84pp); Lady Bumtickler's Revels. A Comic Opera, in two Acts, as it was performed at Lady Bumtickler’s private theatre (106pp); A Treatise of the Use of Flogging in Venereal Affairs (83pp); Madame Birchini's Dance (57pp); Sublime of Flagellation (54pp); Fashionable Lectures Composed and Delivered with Birch Discipline (120pp). Library Illustrative of Social Progress. [Reprinted] from the original editions collected by Henry Thomas Buckle. [London: John Camden Hotten, circa 1872. Seven Volumes bound as one, each with separate half-title and signatures. Thick 8vo, ¾ brown leatherc with marbled sides, spine titled “Buckle’s Tracts”. Typeset facsimiles of editions reputedly published 1777, 1785 and undated. Ashbee in his Index Librorum Prohibitorum disputes this assertion that the volumes had in fact been reprinted, without permission, from a private collection. Whereas Hotten’s version is individually paginated, Ashbee refers to a series continuously paginated. That version carries a false Paris bookselling address on the wrappers but a genuine printer's mark at the tail of the final page (Imp. E. Arrault et Cie, of Tours, dated 4 March 1907) placing actual production in provincial France some thirty-five years after Hotten's original. Condition: Please refer to description.
