1751 ESSAI SUR LE MECHANISME DES PASSIONS, LALLEMANT, FIRST EDITION, PSYCHOLOGY AND PHILOSOPHY A 1751 First Edition of 'Essai Sur le Mechanisme Des Passions en General (Essay on the Mechanism of Passions in General), by the French author and scholar Monsieur Lallemant, Doctor-Regent of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Paris, also known as the Sorbonne. This book contains the results of Lallemant's studies on human emotion, including the causes, expressions, and effects of psychological impulses. He discusses these through the lens of Christian thought along with some clear influence from the Stoic philosophers. A helpful fold-out diagram is included toward the center of the book. This work is an interesting window into the emotional mindset of the people of 18th century France, and contains numerous references to aspects of everyday life which are uncommon in the typical upper-class focused writings of the day. Pasted to the inside of the front cover is a bookplate for the Medical and Scientific bookstore of Jacques LeChevalier in Paris. This leatherbound and gilt First Edition was published by Pierre-Alexandre le Prieur of Paris, France in 1751. xxvii, 56, [12], 189 pp. (Final page is numbered 199 instead of the correct 189, which is a misprint seen in all first editions of this work.) Dimensions: 6 1/2 x 4 in., (16.5 x 10.2 cm.) Condition: Very good, with some minor rubbing to the hinges and edges. Boards tight to hinges. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
