AN UNUSUAL GERMAN FOLDING KNIFE WITH LEATHER SHEATH, EARLY 20TH CEN. A rare and unusual German knife that at first appears to be a standard knife, but when one twists the retaining ring at the top of the grip, the blade can be unfolded, revealing that it is actually almost double the length: 10 1/4 inches long instead of 5 1/2 inches. The retaining rings are marked 'gesetzlich geschützt', a standard German copyright mark, along with a small Anchor symbol, which may be a maker's mark or an indication that this dagger was meant for maritime/naval use. The blade is kept within a stitched leather sheath with X-patterned tooling on the front. Germany, early 20th century. Dimensions: Folded L: 11 3/4 in., (29.8 cm.); Unfolded L: 15 3/4 in., (40 cm.) Condition: Blade bright and well preserved. Mechanism functions well. Grip with no apparent issues. The leather is lightly worn but still fully functional. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
