Johannes Grützke was a co-founder and the best-known painter of the School of New Splendor. He painted in a figurative, highly distinctive style. The people he depicted appear ironically exaggerated. As a portraitist, he did not idealize his models, but rather attempted to approach their character and physiognomy through distortion.]
