Cohen/Ricci 680.- First edition of the famous Bern Heptameron edition, Freudenberg's major illustrative work. Balthasar Anton Dunker created the vignettes, which are 'witty allegories, satirically cheerful epigrams, etched with graceful ease and a sure sense of ornament as well as keen powers of observation, mostly by himself' (Kritter Collection 21). The copper plates after Freudenberg are by Louis Michel Halbou, Joseph de Longueil, Le Roy, Thiébault, Guttenberg, and others. Some are slightly foxed.
