Cohen/Ricci 433 / 435 / 436; Leemann-van-Elck 691 / 715 / 699.] A unique and the most richly decorated copy, with copperplate engravings, of one of the most beautiful French deluxe editions of Gessner's works, with the charming illustrations after Le Barbier, Moreau le jeune, and Monsiau. The translation was done by Gessner's friend Michael Huber, Henri Meister, and Brute de Loirelle. At the end of the third volume are two letters from Gessner to Le Barbier concerning the illustrations and the translation. Le Barbier had dedicated the joint work to Madame de Genlis, which delighted Gessner. - Excellent copy with wide margins, mostly on bluish paper in master bindings. - Occasionally slightly stained, a few plates browned.
