With 3 watercolor drawings and 1 colored copper engraving. Mostly Jena and Bürgel, 1760-63. Oblong octavo. Contemporary gilt-stamped leather binding with gilt edges (somewhat rubbed and bumped, head and tail of spine missing). Franck was born in 1743 in Thalbürgel, Thuringia. His grandmother, Maria Dorothea Lange, née Vulpius, was a great-aunt of Goethe's wife, Christiane Vulpius. In 1760, Franck matriculated at the University of Jena, presumably to study law. The album amicorum was dedicated to this occasion and begun on that date. Franck later became a princely Schwarzburg commissioner and court and district advocate in Thalbürgel. - With entries by his father Tobias Ernst Frank (1706-1780; district commissioner and district judge), by Johann Ernst Immanuel Walch 'acad. Rector' (1725-1778; philologist and geologist), the pastors Ernst Friedrich Boettiger and Adrian Gottlieb Kaestner, the friends and fellow students Samuel Anton Georg Klopstock (1741-1794; collegiate and chamber advocate in Quedlinburg), Christoph Salomo, Johann Ernst Ludwig and Johann Augustin Traugott Linck, Christian Ludwig Leberecht Degen (pastor in Meyhen), Johann Christoph Opitz, and others. - 1 drawing shows the coat of arms of the Frank family. - Enclosed are the biographies of the owner of the family register and the persons entered.
