HISTORICAL SOUVENIR. Pennant of the 9th Company of the 2nd Foreign Regiment, made of green cotton and red canvas; on one side, the 7-flame grenade is embroidered and openworked, and “9th Co.” is rendered in rank braid; on the other side, “2nd Foreign Regiment” in openwork letters; it is attached to a Lebel bayonet scabbard whose tip featured a 7-flame grenade (the flames are missing) made of cut metal. Fairly rustic local craftsmanship; dimensions 29 x 43 cm. Probably contemporary with the Rif War (1924–1926), during which the regiment fought against the troops of Abd-el-Krim. Signs of wear. ABE
