(211) IRON CLOCK Weight-driven wall pendulum clock, c. 1650 H: approx. 35 cm Brass lantern-style movement with slightly curved cylindrical pillars, raised on four spool-shaped feet. The top features four spool-like pivots, plus a fifth at the apex to support the painted iron bell. There is no door on the sides or back; the movement is fully visible. The front features a cut-brass grille. The movement consists of two gear trains sharing a single central pillar. The timekeeping train comprises the mainspring barrel, the center wheel, the contrate wheel, and the escape wheel. A gear wheel is mounted on the extension of the mainspring barrel arbor and drives the hour wheel, which carries the single steel hand; the release star is rigidly attached to the hour wheel. A short pendulum is fixed to the verge arbor and positioned behind the movement. The striking train is reduced to a simple configuration: mainspring barrel, stop wheel, retarder wheel, and fly. The hour wheel is driven by a gear mounted on the mainspring barrel arbor. The release levers and the hammer have a square cross-section and are very substantial. Two large weights power the trains. Beneath the movement plate are four forged iron rings. The clock requires restoration. Certificate: Prof. André Curtit.
