LÉON DELAGRANGE - JULIEN BOUCHER 1874-1939 A collection of photographs of the sculptor and pilot Léon Delagrange: in his studio, at the controls of his airplane, at the airfield, 1908-1909. Photographs. 4 vintage prints mounted on cardboard, including 2 citrate prints and 2 silver prints. Dimensions: 12 x 12.7 cm to 20.7 x 26.3 cm Léon Delagrange, a sculptor, was a pioneer of French aviation. He constantly sought to improve his performance by modifying his aircraft, notably switching from the Voisin biplane to the Blériot XI monoplane, on which he installed a powerful 50-horsepower engine. On January 4, 1910, during a flight in Croix d’Hins (Gironde), the wings of his aircraft broke off in mid-air, killing him instantly.
