Monumental, sumptuous rug in the Mughal style, 20th century, approx. 936 x 793 cm (74 square meters). This extraordinary Oriental carpet impresses not only with its imposing size of approximately 74 square meters, but above all with its finely balanced aesthetics in the tradition of Indo-Persian court art. Rugs of this size are referred to as “palace-sized” and, due to the enormous technical effort required for their production, are an absolute rarity on the art market. The design follows the classical formal language of the Mughal style, which is famous for its floral and elegantly curving patterns. A wall-to-wall vine pattern unfolds against a deep, warm red background. The stylization of the floral elements in elegant ivory white creates a brilliant contrast that lends the room a surprising sense of lightness and luminosity despite its monumental size. Thanks to the clear and precise lines of the tendrils, the all-over repeat pattern evokes an eternal garden and gives the rug a timeless and modern look, allowing it to create a highly exclusive atmosphere in both classical architecture and modern, spacious interiors. Signs of age and wear, damage to the edges, and cuts that have been repaired on the reverse side. Several motor oil stains are also visible on the back. Due to the enormous size of this hand-knotted rug, on-site viewing is possible only by appointment at our auction hall in Leinfelden-Echterdingen. NO SHIPPING TO THE U.S.
