PAIR OF LARGE EMPIRE-STYLE CANDELABRAS France, late 19th / early 20th century. Burnished and fire-gilded bronze (bronze patiné et doré) and dark green marble with white veining (Vert de Mer marble). Square base resting on four cast feet featuring volutes and foliage relief. Above this is a profiled base element of green marble, crowned by a finely crafted acanthus leaf knot in gilded bronze. The column shaft, made of green marble, is topped by a Corinthian-inspired capital. The richly decorated candelabrum features six light arms (five S-shaped arms made of patinated bronze with gilded spouts and drip plates, as well as a central, taller light arm with a flame finial). The arms are lavishly decorated with palmettes, volutes, and acanthus motifs. Dimensions: H approx. 95 cm. Very good overall condition, consistent with its age. Minimal chips on the marble edges. Gilding is slightly worn in places, with a beautiful patina. Isolated traces of wax in the sockets.
