A PAIR OF LOUIS XVI-STYLE FIREPLACE SETS France, early 20th century. Gilded bronze. Designed in the classical Louis XVI style. The sets are conceived as architectural balustrades. Each piece rests on four sculpted lion’s-paw feet that support a rectangular base. This base is decorated all around with a delicate meander band and features a square cartouche with a stylized rosette on the front. On each of the outer, taller plinths stands a large, fluted vase with burning flames. The vases are decorated with dense laurel garlands held in place by sculptural ram’s heads. The lower, inner pedestals are crowned by a pine cone finial. The connecting balustrade segments are arched and adorned with hanging festoons and a central bow motif. Solid chasing and beautiful gilding with a decorative patina of age. HxW: approx. 43/40 cm each. Good condition for its age, with slight wear on the gilding and minimal signs of oxidation. The backs reveal the mounting structure, with visible struts for stabilization.
