LARGE SIX-FLAMED CANDELABRA IN THE EMPIRE STYLE France, late 19th / early 20th century. Bronze, fire-gilded and with a dark patina. A tall, stately table candelabrum on a stepped, fluted base of dark-patinated bronze. The rising base and the node are richly decorated with relief acanthus foliage and palmette friezes in fine fire-gilding. The fluted shaft is topped by a Corinthian-inspired capital. From this emerge six curved, cornucopia-shaped candle arms with godron-decorated sockets and drip cups, arranged around a central finial crowned with a pine cone. The interplay between the deep, dark patina of the shaft and the gleaming, finely chiseled gilding lends the object a sublime neoclassical elegance. Height: 85 cm. Very good condition, consistent with its age. Patina and gilding are slightly worn in places; slight traces of wax in the spouts. The mounting on the underside retains the original threaded rod and square nut.
