DAUM FRÈRES, rare “Prunelles et toile d’araignée” vase, Nancy, circa 1905–1910. Height: 18 cm. Colorless glass with opaque yellow and violet powder fusions. The upper portion of the body is entirely covered with a fine honeycomb-patterned martelé cut. Decorative motifs etched, cut, and painted with enamel run all the way around. Engraved on the base with the Lorraine Cross: DAUM NANCY. Egg-shaped body with a tapered neck and a slightly flared rim. The multi-layered decoration features, on one side, delicate branches with sloe berries (prunelles) and leaves in warm shades of brown and red. The obverse side is dominated by a large-scale etched and needle-engraved spiderweb with a spider (toile d’araignée), which artfully extends across the wall. An extraordinary and highly sought-after Art Nouveau collector’s item that masterfully combines botanical and symbolist motifs. H: 18 cm. Very good, undamaged condition. See Katharina Büttiker, Daum Frères - Verreries de Nancy, Zurich 2009, p. 82ff. (for comparable spiderweb motifs); See Clotilde Petry, *Daum: Le verre, l’art et les armes*, Nancy 2014.
