MEISSEN, rare Böttger stoneware vase “The Abduction,” 20th century. Designed by Prof. Heinz Werner (1928), painted by Elke Dannenberg. “Limited Edition MEISSEN Artworks” series. Böttger stoneware with fine gold decoration and enamel painting. Model / Item No.: 681884-85922-1. On the base: sword mark, pressed “BÖTTGER STEINZEUG” stamp, painter’s signature, and gold limited-edition number 23/25. Dimensions: 46.5 cm. Tall, bulbous vase shape with a long, tower-like neck and removable lid. Bulbous body resting on a recessed, relief-decorated base with a color-accented tongue-and-groove frieze. On the wall section, a delicate, Oriental-inspired narrative scene in glossy and matte gold in the style of “1,001 Nights”: depictions of guards, palace architecture, and the abduction of the princess by her prince on horseback at the slender neck. On the front, exquisitely fine gold silhouette painting, accentuated by subtle color gradation at the node. The piece masterfully combines the historical design language of early Meissen metal carafes (under the direction of court silversmith Johann Jacob Irminger) with the modern, fairy-tale-like imagery of Prof. Heinz Werner. In impeccable, like-new condition. Comes with an original certificate from the Meissen Manufactory (“Limited Edition MEISSEN Artworks,” number 23 of 25).
