Furniture, Interior Design. – Th. Sheraton (1751–1806). The Cabinetmaker, Upholsterer, and General Artist’s Encyclopedia. Installments 1–10. London 1804ff. Folio, 64 numbered pages, 6 leaves, 1 leaf of subscription list, and 20 copperplate plates. Original installment covers, original paperback binding. This is a collection of the first ten installments of the encyclopedia, “for which 125 installments were planned, but which only progressed as far as the entry ‘Cap’” (Thieme/B.); the present volume covers A–Anathema, with each installment containing two copperplate plates. This major encyclopedia was preceded in 1803 by *The Cabinet Dictionary* as an octavo edition (Cat. Berlin 1235). Sheraton used his lexicon to expand his collection of furniture types with its illustrations, a collection that “can be considered exemplary of English furniture art of the late 18th century” (Thieme/B.). – Installment covers are creased and partly loose; pp. 29–36 are duplicates; 2 plates have water stains; otherwise in impeccable condition and fresh from the press.
