Title page, 4 leaves, and 60 etched plates by Jules Jacquemart (1837–1880), each with a text page; binding loose. This first edition was followed by numerous reprints beginning in 1886, most recently published as a paperback in 2018. Of all the elements that make up this “luxury edition” (Wikipedia) by Barbet de Jouy (1812–1896), Jacquemart’s etchings deserve special mention. His body of work (approx. 400 etchings) is largely devoted to the depiction of decorative arts objects, and “with this specialty, Jacquemart is virtually the creator of a new genre” (Thieme/B.), Regarding the present inventory of the French Crown Jewels: “His magnum opus consists of the 60 plates for the edition of *Gemmes et Joyaux de la Couronne*.” – Precious vessels, objects made of rock crystal and precious stones, masterpieces by goldsmiths and gem cutters, jewelry, and display pieces make up the contents of this cabinet of curiosities on Marais-style handmade paper.
