GERMAN COINS AND MEDALS UP TO 1871. EICHSTÄTT, DIOCESE. Gabriel von Eyb, 1496–1535. Single-sided copper token, 25 mm in diameter (2.08 g). Undated; mint mark not confirmed. The upper part of a crozier pointing to the right between the letters G. and F. Cahn, p. 71, note. RRR! Extremely rare! Very fine. Provenance: Collection of the Prince-Bishopric of Eichstätt. Acquired from the Johannes Diller Numismatic Shop in 2012. The attribution to Eichstätt, as well as the attribution of a minting under Gabriel von Eyb, has not been substantiated in the literature to date. Copper coins were uncommon in southern Germany at that time. Therefore, it stands to reason that this specimen can be classified as a token. Under No. 113 (in MBNG 4/13; illustrated there), Gebert mentions a token depicting the upper part of a crook staff pointing to the right between the letters G and F (Getreide-Fuhr?).
