Mario Borgoni (1869–1936) – National Hotel, Cairo. 1905. Printed by Richter, Naples. 146 × 106 cm. Original poster, lithograph, mounted on canvas. Condition A–, very slight signs of original creases. This spectacular Orientalist poster depicts a sunset over the pyramids of Egypt, with an explorer on his dromedary (or camel...) in the foreground. Unusually for a poster, it is not the hotel—despite being a luxury palace—that takes center stage in the image, but rather an evocation of travel, discovery, and archaeological splendors.
