Reference: “Les affiches de Chagall,” Charles Sorlier, 1975, p. 39. This poster is one of the original posters created by the artist himself, not a reproduction. It is therefore a large, original, period color lithograph signed on the plate. Of all the tourism and exhibition posters the artist created, this one is by far the most spectacular. This is why it appears on the cover of the catalog raisonné. It was commissioned by the French Tourism Commission to promote Nice and, indirectly, tourist destinations along the Mediterranean coast, particularly the French Riviera (Cannes, Menton, St. Tropez, Saint-Raphaël, Hyères, Èze…), in foreign countries.
