Louis Vallet (1956–1940) — *Paris Impur*, by Charles Virmaître, published by Dalou. 1889. Printed by Unsinger. 56x43cm. Original poster, lithograph, unmounted. Grade A—traces of horizontal creases. Virmaître carefully studied the mores of Paris—not only the historical or intellectual Paris, but also, and above all, the secret and licentious Paris. He wrote numerous books illustrated with drawings by the finest artists of the time, in which he explored the sexual lives of Parisians and the world of prostitution. This is certainly the case with our poster, which we would consider erotic today but which was deemed pornographic at the time. The book advertised by this poster featured illustrations by Auriol, Garanza, Choubrac, Radiguet, and Le Petit. Erotica.
