Jane Atché (1872–1937) – Librairie de l’Académie des Écoles. P. Moraud, Lyon. Circa 1903. 47x38 cm. Original poster, lithographic print, mounted on canvas. Grade A. This rare poster captures “the reverie” that certain books inspire. One can recognize in this work the naturalist influence of Grasset, as well as that of Byzantine heads, as imagined by Mucha. Born in Toulouse, she was a student of Mucha, as well as of Firmin Bouisset and Jean Paul Laurens. This image, also known as “Woman with a Daisy,” in contrast to her famous master, Atché bridges the gap here between Art Nouveau and the Pre-Raphaelites. It remains a remarkable poster for this bookstore located in the Rhône department.
