Jean PAULHAN. *Rimbaud d’un seul trait*. Paris: Le Cercle de poésie, undated [1965]. Square folio, soft cloth binding, brown canvas slipcase (S Evrard). First edition: limited run of 130 copies. One of the 30 special copies on cream Arches laid paper, not for sale (no. 28). Famous lecture delivered before the Cercle de Poésie. “There have been better poets than Rimbaud in the history of literature: Victor Hugo is more expansive and generous, Goethe has more serenity and harmony, Baudelaire and Coleridge move us more deeply. […] Yet no poet has preoccupied people as much as Rimbaud. He is unique. We can never shake him off. He sticks with us.” Enclosed are the autograph working manuscript as well as the heavily corrected and signed typescript. Beautiful working documents: the autograph manuscript consists of 7 folio-sized sheets on graph paper, and the typescript consists of 4 sheets. The entire set is housed in an ingenious box by S. Evrard, a French bookbinder of Hungarian origin and one of the pillars of the Air Neuf group.
