In-4, publisher’s soft board binding, illustrated dust jacket with filled-in illustrations, publisher’s slipcase. First edition, illustrated with 64 full-page reproductions of the author’s drawings. One of the first 25 copies printed on Arches vellum, each accompanied by an original, signed drawing by the author. Copy A, specially printed for Henri Michaux. Autograph dedication signed beneath the title page: In homage to Mr. Rodel H. Michaux Accompanying certificate from the Alphonse Chave Gallery providing information on the provenance of this copy. “Alain Rodel was a friend of the publisher René Bertelé and a close friend and collector of Michaux’s work. Toward the end of his life, he met Armande de Trentinan, the daughter of Francis Ponge and secretary to Jean Dubuffet. Rodel then shifted the focus of his collection toward Dubuffet and sold a large part of his Henri Michaux collection to Jean Hugues, director of the Le Point Cardinal bookstore and gallery. I myself acquired this volume from Jean Hugues a few years ago. Pierre Chave.” (Catalog of the Chave exhibition, 2002, reproduced on page 4.)
