André FRÉNAUD. Haeres. Paris: Édition de l’Ermitage, 1977. Small square folio, loose-leaf, cover with flaps, in the publisher’s blue paper slipcase. First edition. Limited edition of 67 copies on large Arches vellum, signed by the poet and the painter (no. 36). A highly refined volume illustrated with 10 original drypoint and aquatint prints by Geneviève Asse. In announcing the exhibition dedicated to the painter and printmaker at the Musée Soulages in 2025, the director, Benoît Decron, remarked: “Geneviève Asse (1923–2021) is a painter of silence: no bass drum rolls, but a world composed of blues and incident light, rendered in rays or flat areas of color. ‘Asse Blue’ is elusive, difficult to categorize in a color chart.” She began practicing printmaking alongside painting in 1954. The spine and edges of the publisher’s slipcase are sun-faded.
