ANDREAS LEIßNER (born 1978 in Berlin, based there) Forest I, 2012 Oil on burlap/MDF panel. 36 x 52.5 cm. Framed. Signed and titled on the reverse; artist’s name, title, and date on the gallery label. Andreas Leißner initially studied under André Krigar before attending the Berlin University of the Arts from 1999 to 2004 in Professor Volker Stelzmann’s class, graduating as a master student in 2004. Since then, he has worked as a freelance painter. His hyperrealistic work “Wald I” depicts a dense deciduous forest with fallen tree trunks and wildly overgrown undergrowth in the foreground. At the center stands a massive, moss-covered tree trunk with visible damage to the bark, rising against a light-flooded background of autumn-colored foliage. With extraordinary attention to detail, the artist renders the interplay of light and shadow as well as the textures of bark, moss, and leaf litter, thereby creating an almost photorealistic, atmospherically dense study of nature.
