GERO KÜNZEL (Born 1962 in Erfurt; based in Hausdorf near Leipzig) Water Lilies, 2020/21 Oil on hardboard. 25 panels. Each 24 x 30 cm. Framed. Titled, signed, and dated on the reverse. Künzel studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig, under Volker Stelzmann, among others. From 1988 to 1991, he was Bernhard Heisig’s last master student. His impasto palette knife technique is characteristic of his work: the paintings appear relief-like, with a surface that is almost three-dimensional.
