CLEMENS KRAUSS (1981, Graz; based in Berlin) Untitled (from the series “Going to Jerusalem”), 2014 Acrylic and oil on canvas. 40 x 60 cm. Titled on the back of the folded-over canvas at the top and signed, dated, and inscribed with the location “Tel Aviv” at the bottom. Clemens Krauss is an Austrian painter. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and at the Berlin University of the Arts. Two figures stand in front of a row of destroyed houses, close together and almost overlapping, as if they were the last ones left in the same circle. The game of musical chairs ends with one person left without a seat—Krauss painted this series in Tel Aviv in 2014, transforming the children’s game into a bitter climax. Krauss has gained international recognition for his impasto painting style, and in this small format, it reveals its full power.
