LOTHAR FISCHER (1933 Germersheim – 2004 Baierbrunn near Munich) Large, Slender Woman Seated in an Armchair, 1977 Iron, brown rust patina. 127 x 55 x 15 cm. Copy 1/6. Signed and numbered on the back. Surface partially covered with lichen due to many years of outdoor display. Catalog number: Dornacher: 858. Provenance: Private collection, Hesse The “Large, Slender Woman Seated in an Armchair” is composed of flat iron plates and rendered in profile. The backrest rises as a narrow plate placed on its edge; in its upper half, the figure emerges from the surface, with a small head, two slight elevations representing breasts, and a bent arm. The seat and thighs form a right angle; the leg tapers forward as a narrow strip. The chair and the body are a single piece. Here, Fischer does not distinguish between the seated figure and the chair, but rather creates both from a single structure: the figure is sheltered within the chair and simultaneously constrained by it. From the front, a silhouette; from the side, a wall—the sculpture reveals only one perspective.
