KURT BUNGE (1911 Bitterfeld – 1998 Kassel) Füchsberg Oil on hardboard. 80 x 100 cm. Framed. Signed lower right. Titled and signed on the reverse. Slightly scuffed along the lower right edge (approx. 6 cm). Provenance: Private collection, Hesse For Bunge, there was no contradiction between representational and abstract painting—for him, the landscape serves as an inspiration for an arrangement of color fields, not as the subject of a depiction. The painting comes alive through a few deliberate accents set against a subdued background. Green, gray, and sandy tones set the overall mood, while the red in the center and the white on the right stand out abruptly.
