Bottles, fruits, cups, and a bust are defined not so much by contours as by contrasting fields of color, rendered in a loose, at times impasto-like brushstroke. Particularly striking is the contrast between the cool gray-blue of the background and the warm red, ochre, and brown tones of the tabletop. The objects increasingly dissolve into color and the painterly surface—a typical feature of Cybis’s mature, postwar painting.
