ALTÄGYPTISCHES SHABTI FÜR HUY NEUES REICH, 19. DYNASTIE, 1292–1190 v. Chr. Fayence, mumienförmig, mit Pickel und Hacke in den Händen und einem Korb auf dem Rücken, auf allen Seiten mit Hieroglyphen bemalt, auf einem maßgefertigten Sockel montiert 13,5 cm hoch Provenienz: Privatsammlung, Cambridge, Großbritannien; im 19. Jahrhundert erworben Shabti-Figuren, auch als „Antwortfiguren“ bekannt, wurden in einem Grab platziert, damit der Geist des Besitzers im Jenseits keine körperliche Arbeit verrichten musste. Oft waren sie mit Kapitel 6 des Totenbuchs, dem Shabti-Text, beschriftet – einem Zauberspruch, der den Shabti dazu zwingt, anstelle seines Besitzers zu handeln, wenn dieser aufgefordert wird, die Felder zu bestellen, das Land zu bewässern oder Sand von Osten nach Westen zu transportieren.
