Albert Besnard (1849–1934) Madame Paul Gallimard. 1885. Kaltnadelradierung. 263 × 374 [303 × 444]. Godefroy 26. Sehr schöner Abzug auf elfenbeinfarbenem Büttenpapier, 1. Zustand (von 2), vor dem quadratischen Strich, das Motiv stark verkleinert, mit Bleistift mit „1. Zustand“ vermerkt. Leichte Wellen an den Rändern des Blattes. Alle Ränder vorhanden. AABM-Stempel (Lugt 3075). Paul Gallimard (Vater des berühmten Verlegers Gaston Gallimard) verkehrte im Kreis der impressionistischen und symbolistischen Maler wie Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas oder auch Auguste Rodin und unterstützte diese aktiv. In diesen Kreisen lernte er Albert Besnard kennen und beauftragte ihn mit Originalillustrationen, die sein persönliches Exemplar des Werks „L’Affaire Clemenceau“ (1905) bereichern sollten.
