New Hollstein (Johannes Stradanus) 341. ?Sehr schöner Abzug auf dünnem Büttenpapier, 2. Zustand (von 4), adressiert an Philip Galle (später durch die von Johannes Galle ersetzt). Einige wenige helle Stockflecken. Schöne Ränder. Stempel AABM (Lugt 3075). Der Brief lautet: „Sculptor nova arte, bracteata in lamina. Scalpit figuras, atque praelis imprimit“, was übersetzt bedeutet: „Der Bildhauer einer neuen Kunst graviert auf einer Metallplatte Figuren und druckt sie mit Hilfe der Presse.“ “ Die Serie „Nova Reperta“ illustriert einige der für Europa am Ende des 16. Jahrhunderts bedeutenden Entdeckungen und Erfindungen, von der Erforschung Amerikas bis zum Anbau von Zuckerrohr, von der Erfindung des Kompasses bis zur Entwicklung des Schießpulvers. Zwei Themen, „Impressio librorum“ und „Sculptura in æs“, widmen sich den neuen Drucktechniken und stellen jeweils eine Buchdruckerei und eine Kupferstichwerkstatt dar.
