Bwa-Maske, Burkina Faso. Bedeutende Schmiedemaske der Kobiay (Hombo), auch „Hahnmaske“ genannt, von bemerkenswerter skulpturaler Kraft; sie zeichnet sich durch ihren besonders kunstvoll gearbeiteten spiralförmigen Kamm aus, dessen doppelte, durchbrochene Kontur eine weitläufige und harmonische Bewegung beschreibt. Das röhrenförmige Gesicht, eingerahmt von kantigen Fortsätzen, mündet in einen kraftvollen, viereckigen Mund mit sichtbaren Zähnen. Die Holzoberfläche weist eine alte, erodiert wirkende Patina auf, in der sich erdige Farbtöne, Abriebspuren und Reste eingeritzter Motive vermischen. Herkunft: ehem. Sammlung Jean Lecluse, Lüttich.
