Weinkelch aus Palmenholz mit dem Porträt eines Häuptlings Holz, alte honigfarbene und braune Patina, Gebrauchsspuren. Kuba, Demokratische Republik Kongo. 21,5 x 12,5 cm Die Schale hat die Form eines Häuptlingskopfes, der mit einem weit ausladenden, geriffelten Kopfschmuck gekrönt ist. Die schweren Augenlider und das gelassene Gesicht verleihen ihr einen Ausdruck ruhiger Würde, während sich ein spitzer Bart über den schlanken Fuß erstreckt, der sich zu einem runden Sockel erweitert. Diese als „mbwoong ntey“ bezeichneten Schalen zeugten von der Raffinesse der Kuba-Hofkunst: Sie unterstrichen das Ansehen ihres Besitzers und seine Großzügigkeit beim Verteilen des Palmweins.
