Baglé-Tanzmaske mit röhrenförmigen Augen Holz, sehr alte braune und rötliche Patina, Abnutzungsspuren und kleine Fehlstellen. Dan, Republik Côte d’Ivoire. 23 x 13,5 cm Röhrenförmige Augen beleben dieses ovale Gesicht mit ausgeprägter Stirn und spitz zulaufendem Kinn. Der offene Mund mit hervorstehenden Lippen verstärkt die Ausdruckskraft der Skulptur. Bei den Dan wurden Baglé-Masken bei Aufführungen eingesetzt, die Tanz, Pantomime und kleine Theaterstücke miteinander verbanden. Ihre manchmal provokativen Auftritte verbanden Unterhaltung mit der Manifestation eines Waldgeistes.
