Werner Gilles 1894 Rheydt - 1961 Essen - "Am Grab des Orpheus" - (1948) Farblithografie/Papier. 37 x 55 cm, 43 x 60,3 cm. 47 x 64 cm (Maß mit Rahmen). Sign. und dat. r. u.: Gilles 1948. Betit. l. u. Bez. l. u.: Orig. Litho. Unter Glas gerahmt. Leicht gebräunt. Fleckig am oberen Rand. Studierte von 1919-1923 bei W. Klemm und bei L. Feininger am Weimarer Bauhaus. In dieser Zeit pflegte Gilles Freundschaften mit G. Marcks und O. Schlemmer. Seit 1921 hielt er sich regelmäßig im Sommer auf Ischia in Italien auf, wohnte zwischen 1925 und 1930 aber auch in Düsseldorf, Paris und Berlin. Ab 1951 lebte Gilles abwechselnd in München und auf Ischia (Italien).
