An der TU Berlin hatte Eglau einen Lehrstuhl für freies Malen und Zeichnen inne. 1957 erhielt er den Preis der 1. Exposition Biennale Internationale De Gravure à Tokyo Er unternahm zahlreiche Studienreisen weltweit, behielt jedoch feste Ateliers in Berlin und auf Sylt.
