Schlangenring mit Diamant und Rubin - "Promise ring" Wohl Ende 19./ Anfang 20. Jahrhundert. 585/- Gelbgold, gestemp. Gewicht: 8 g. Punze: 585. 1 Diamant ca. 0,12 ct. 1 Rubin ca. 0,12 ct. Ringgr. 57. Guter Erhaltungszustand. Plastisch gearbeiteter Ring in Form zweier ineinander verschlungener Schlangen mit fein reliefierten Schuppenkörpern. Die beiden einander zugewandten Schlangenköpfe sind jeweils mit einem Diamanten bzw. Rubin besetzt. Der Schlangenring gilt seit dem 19. Jahrhundert als Sinnbild ewiger Liebe, Treue und Verbundenheit. Besondere Popularität erlangte das Motiv durch Königin Victoria, die 1839 von Prinz Albert einen Schlangenring als Verlobungsgeschenk erhielt. Als sogenannter "Promise Ring" steht das Schmuckstück in der Tradition des sentimentalen Liebes- und Verlobungsschmucks des viktorianischen Zeitalters.
