Carl Zeiss Jena | R-Biotar 0.85/5.5cm Estimate: € 600–800 Year: 1945 SN: 2747757 Condition: B English: Extremely fast R-Biotar manufactured for specialized X-ray screen photography. The R-Biotar was designed to photograph the very low-luminance fluorescent image produced by contemporary X-ray equipment. For maximum light transmission the lens was manufactured without an iris diaphragm, operating permanently at its extraordinary maximum aperture of f/0.85. Unlike the conventional double-Gauss Biotar photographic lenses, the R-Biotar employs a special optical construction derived from the Petzval principle, developed specifically for radiographic applications. The lens is extremely scarce and has very clean lenses. It can be closely compared with the R-Biotar no. 2747802 sold in the 11th WestLicht Camera Auction.
