Mellan, Claude Der hl. Johannes der Täufer in der Einöde. Kupferstich und Radierung. 39,2 x 27,3 cm. 1629. Le Blanc 73, Montaiglon 80 II, IFF 84 II (von III). Wz. Malteser Kreuz im Rosenkranz. Bei vorliegendem Blatt handelt es sich in technischer Hinsicht um den ersten Stich, bei dem Mellan die Modellierung des Körpers fast vollständig mit Hilfe von ondulierenden Parallelschraffuren realisierte; eine Praxis, die später zur Handschrift des Künstlers wurde. Ausgezeichneter, gleichmäßiger, minimal trockener Druck mit dem Datum und vor Änderung des Textes, mit schmalem Rändchen um die Plattenkante. Insgesamt minimal angestaubt, in den Ecken Montierungs- und Klebereste, dort etwas fleckig, sonst sehr gut. Beigegeben von demselben der Kupferstich "Der Benediktinerbischof Claudius betend in einer Berglandschaft" (Montaiglon 64). - Wir bitten darum, Zustandsberichte zu den Losen zu erfragen, da der Erhaltungszustand nur in Ausnahmefällen im Katalog angegeben ist. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalogue.
