Dieses Aquarell von Thomas Bush Hardy zeigt eine stürmische Meereslandschaft mit rotsegligen Fischerbooten, die in der Nähe eines Küstendorfes gegen die raue See ankämpfen. Das Werk mit dem Titel „Wind against Tide, Étaples, Pas-de-Calais“ entstand 1891 und fängt das dramatische Leben auf See in dieser Region ein. Thomas Bush Hardy (3. Mai 1842 – 15. Dezember 1897) war ein britischer Marinemaler und Aquarellist. Hardy wurde am 3. Mai 1842 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, geboren. Als junger Mann reiste er durch die Niederlande und Italien. Im Jahr 1884 wurde Hardy zum Mitglied der Royal Society of British Artists gewählt. Er stellte sowohl bei der Gesellschaft als auch an der Royal Academy aus.
