Mai – 4. Oktober 2009, Nr. 44 Die Jahre um 1935 gelten als Höhepunkt im abstrakten Schaffen von Hans Erni. In engem Austausch mit der internationalen Pariser Avantgarde und der Künstlervereinigung "Abstraction-Création" hatte er seit 1933 eine konsequent ungegenständliche Bildsprache entwickelt. Die vorliegende "Komposition 34" entstand in dieser kurzen, kunsthistorisch besonders bedeutenden Schaffensphase, die sich grundlegend von seinem späteren, überwiegend figurativen Werk unterscheidet. Ebenfalls 1935 organisierte Erni gemeinsam mit Konrad Farner die wegweisende Ausstellung "These – Antithese – Synthese" im Kunstmuseum Luzern, die bedeutende Vertreter der europäischen Avantgarde vereinte. Die abstrakten Kompositionen dieser Jahre dokumentieren Ernis unmittelbare Beteiligung an den internationalen Entwicklungen der modernen Kunst.
