Barraud Gerahmt 46.5 × 38.5 cm Nach einer Ausbildung zum Gebrauchsgraphiker besuchte Maurice Barraud die École des Beaux-Arts in Genf und gründete 1914 gemeinsam mit seinem Bruder Gustave François und weiteren Künstlern die Gruppe "Le Falot". Im Laufe seiner künstlerischen Entwicklung widmete er sich insbesondere der Darstellung weiblicher Figuren, die zu einem zentralen Motiv seines Schaffens wurden. Unter dem Einfluss der französischen Malerei entwickelte er eine zunehmend helle Farbigkeit und vereinfachte Formensprache. Das Gemälde "Japonaise à l'ombrelle" greift mit der Darstellung einer Japanerin mit Sonnenschirm ein Motiv auf, das im Zuge des Japonismus seit dem späten 19.
